Emmitsburg, Md. (September 22, 2017) – Mount St. Mary's women's tennis team wrapped up day one of the Mount Invitational on Friday night in Emmitsburg. Four Mountaineers made it to the quarterfinals in their respected flights in singles play.
In flight A, Alexa Quintanilla advanced to the quarterfinals by a forfeit due to sickness to remain undefeated in singles competition this year. The freshman, Megan Smith, recorded her first collegiate victory in flight B after defeating, Loyola's, Alex Agee, 6-3,3-6,10-8 to advance to the quarterfinals of that flight. In flight D, Emma Blake defeated, Siena's, Julia Dunbar 6-4,4-6,10-5 to advance to the quarterfinals. Senior, Sam Barbato, advanced to the quarterfinals of flight E by recording a 6-2, 7-5 win against Kayli Fonzi from Harford Community College for her first victory of the season.
Barbato and Cassandra Powell defeated Sofia Samra and Alicia Yeag from Harford Community College 6-2 in the round robin flight C of doubles action.
The Mount is set to have a strong day 2 with Mountaineers in the quarterfinals in four of the five singles flights.
