Mount St. Mary's Falls to Bryant, 8-1, in Final Game of Four-Game Series

Smithfield, R.I. (March 24, 2013)--Mount St. Mary's dropped the final game of a four-game series at Bryant, 8-1, on Sunday afternoon.  Nick Walker went 1-for-3 with a double and a run scored in the loss for the Mountaineers.

The Bulldogs (9-9-1, 4-0 NEC) broke the game open with a six-run sixth inning.  Leading 2-1 heading into the bottom of the sixth, Daniel St. George provided a pinch-hit two-run double to left center field with the bases loaded to push the advantage to 4-1.  Jordan Mountford's two-run single made it 6-1, while the Bulldogs added two more runs on a bases loaded walk and a Carl Anderson infield single.

Kevin Brown's RBI single and John Mullen's sacrifice fly in the bottom of the first gave Bryant a 2-0 advantage.

The Mount (4-14, 0-4 NEC) cut the deficit to 2-1 with fifth when Walker doubled, moved to third on a balk, and scored on Zach Smith's RBI groundout.

Mount starter Jordan Lawson allowed six runs (five earned) in five innings of work.  Chad Diehl and Thomas Williams each pitched 1.1 innings of scoreless relief.

Brown went 3-for-4 to pace Bryant, which had 13 hits in the ballgame.  Craig Schlitter struck out five while allowing one run in six innings to pick up the win.

The Mount is back in action on Thursday, March 28, when Quinnipiac visits E.T. Straw Family Stadium for a 3:00 p.m. game.  It is the first of a four-game NEC series.
