Emmitsburg, Md. (May 10, 2013)--Brandon Scott homered in each game, but it was not enough as Mount St. Mary's was swept by Sacred Heart in a Northeast Conference doubleheader at E.T. Straw Family Stadium on campus. The Mount fell 7-1 in the opening game before falling 6-2 in the nightcap.
Sacred Heart grabbed a 4-0 lead after two and a half innings of play to take control of the first game. Scott belted a solo home run, his first of the season, in the bottom of the third to cut teh deficit to 4-1.
Sacred Heart (27-21, 22-9 NEC) added a pair of runs in the sixth and one more in the seventh to seal the victory.
Scott's home run and Nick Walker's base hit were the only offense the Mount (10-33, 5-22 NEC) could muster off Sacred Heart pitcher Nick Leningen, who struck out seven in the complete-game victory.
Sacred Heart took an early 3-0 lead in the second game en route to the 6-2 victory. Scott's solo home run in the third inning cut the deficit to 3-1. After Sacred Heart added a pair of runs in the top of the sixth, Nick Walker added a solo home run in the bottom of the inning to make the score 5-2.
Vincent Molesky allowed five runs (four earned) while striking out three in 5.2 innings of work to take the loss for the Mount. Chad Diehl allowed one run with two strikeouts in one inning of relief while Austin Bonadio retired the only batter he faced.
Jeff Stoddard pitched a complete game with four strikeouts and seven hits allowed for Sacred Heart.
The teams will complete the four-game series tomorrow at 10:00 a.m.
