Smithfield, R.I. (May 1, 2013)—Mount St. Mary's senior Andrew Scalley (Arnold, Md./Archbishop Spalding) has been named the Northeast Conference Offensive Player of the Year. Scalley and Brett Schmidt (Great Mills, Md./St. Mary's Ryken) were also named First Team All-NEC at the attack position while John Anderson (Annapolis, Md./St. Mary's) was named Second Team All-NEC on defense.
Scalley led the Mount with a Northeast Conference record 66 points this year, tallying 30 goals and 36 assists. He averaged 4.40 points per game, which ranks sixth in NCAA Division I. Scalley finished his career second all-time at the Mount with 220 points while his 129 goals and 91 assists are each fourth all-time in the Mount record books. Scalley had a career-high 10 points on six goals and four assists in the Mount's win over Manhattan, setting the NEC single-game record for points. Scalley is a three-time First Team All-NEC selection while he was the league's Rookie of the Year as a freshman.
Schmidt was named First Team All-NEC at the attack position, marking the fourth time in his career he has garnered All-NEC honors. Schmidt led the Mount and the NEC with 34 goals this season while he was second with 60 points. A 2013 Major League Lacrosse draft pick (Rochester, 5th Round), Schmidt's 60 points this year are the eighth most in NCAA Division I. For his career, Schmidt tied for fifth all-time at the Mount with 196 points on 114 goals and 82 assists. Schmidt was named First Team All-NEC in 2013 and 2011 while nabbing Second Team honors in 2012 and 2010.
Anderson was named Second Team All-NEC on defense. The senior appeared in 12 games for the Mount this season, posting six caused turnovers and 13 ground balls. He finished his career with 57 ground balls and 20 caused turnovers in 54 games played.
The Mount finished the 2013 season 6-9 overall and 2-3 in the Northeast Conference.
