The Mount St. Mary's men's soccer team comes into Sunday's key matchup after defeating Long Island 1-0 to keep their playoff hopes alive and snap their four game losing streak. Yann Kouemi potted the only goal in the 49th minute via a cross from Miguel Lucero. Riccardo Zonta registered a shutout with four big saves in net. The win put the Mountaineers in sixth place in the Northeast Conference standings and just one point out of a the final playoff spot.

Fairleigh Dickinson comes into Sunday's matchup on a two game losing streak in the Northeast Conference with both games being decided by one goal. This past weekend the Knights were edged by Bryant 1-0 and Merrimack 2-1 in overtime. Fairleigh Dickinson currently sits in eighth place in the Northeast Conference standings, one point behind the Mountaineers. The team is led by junior forward Diego Arribas who has registered eight goals and two assists for a total of 18 points during the 2019 season. Three of those eight goals have been game winners for the Knights. Junior goalkeeper Jahmali Waite has been solid in net with 57 saves and a 1.25 goals against average on the year.

The Mount Men's soccer team is 4-5-1 all-time against the Knights of Fairleigh Dickinson. Their last win came back in 2010 where they defeated the Knights 1-0 at Waldron Family Stadium. In last year's matchup, the two squads battled to a 0-0 draw in which senior goalkeeper Bobby Edwards recorded nine saves to keep the game scoreless. The Mountaineers will look for their first win in Teaneck, New Jersey since 2009 where they edged the Knights 2-1.

With Northeast Conference leader Merrimack being ineligible for the 2019 men's soccer playoffs, one spot is still open for postseason play. Saint Francis University, Long Island University, and Bryant have all clinched postseason spots. Fairleigh Dickinson, Mount St. Mary's, Robert Morris, and St. Francis Brooklyn are fighting for the fourth seed in the Northeast Conference tournament. The Mount will qualify for the 2019 postseason with a win over Fairleigh Dickinson and losses or ties from both Robert Morris and St. Francis Brooklyn. A Mount tie plus losses by both the Colonials and Terriers also makes the Mountaineers the number four seed.
