The Mount St. Mary's men's and women's swimming & diving teams open the 2018-19 season this coming Saturday, October 6, with a meet at VMI at 12 p.m. The women's squad owns a perfect 12-0 dual meet record in its history against VMI. Last year, the Mountaineers posted 120-72 and 124-76 victories over the Keydets at home. On the men's side, the Mount and VMI have met three times in dual meet action. The Keydets registered a 124-71 victory during the Mount's inaugural season in 2016. Last year, VMI edged the Mount 107-98 in the first meeting, before the Mountaineers got their first victory in program history the following day, downing the Keydets by a 119-95 margin in Emmitsburg.

The Mount St. Mary's women's team raced out to its best start to a season in program history during the 2017-18 campaign, beginning the year 6-0 in dual meets after a pair of victories over VMI and wins over Monmouth, Saint Peter's, Howard and St. Francis Brooklyn. The Mount eventually closed out the season at 6-2, which marked the team's best dual meet record in program history. At the Northeast Conference Championships, the Mount finished in eighth place with 174 team points. Maddie McGraw highlighted the championships by registering a pair of top-10 finishes and breaking the Mount's program records in the 100 and 200 backstroke events. Mary Lombardi registered the team's other top-10 finish of the meet, placing eighth in the 1650 free.

In just its second season of existence, the men's program recorded dual meet victories over VMI, Monmouth and St. Francis Brooklyn en route to a 3-6 record on the season. The team's 119-95 win over VMI on October 7 was the first victory in program history, as the Mountaineers won eight of 12 events at the meet. The Mount posted a seventh-place showing at the Coastal Collegiate Sports Association (CCSA) Championships in its first season as a member of the conference. Will Twizell led the Mount at the CCSA Championships, posting top-10 finishes in the 100 breast, 200 breast and 200 IM. In March, the Mountaineers sent seven qualifying swimmers – Twizell, Ryan Carroll, Brock Cudahy, Thomas de Xavier, Jonathan Mata, Aidan McCormick, and John Wilson -- to the College Swimming & Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) National Invitational.

The men's team added nine newcomers to help bolster this year's squad heading into the program's third season. Gregory Afolabi-Brown (Gaithersburg, Md.), Austin Dodd (Hanover, Pa.), Brendan Flanagan (Wilmington, Del.), Ryan Griffiths (Mechanicsville, Va.), Christian Hill (Gibbstown, N.J.), Andrew Jones (Springfield, Va.), Peter Jones (Springfield, Va.), Robert Rieger (Randolph, N.J.), and Luke Smist (Upperco, Md.) make up the Mount's 2018-19 recruiting class.

The women's squad added six newcomers for the upcoming season. Haley Bodner (Brick, N.J.), Kira Buchler (Sanatoga, Pa.), Catherine Davis (Severna Park, Md.), Elizabeth Fahrney (Allentown, Pa.), Eliza Felos (Lebanon, Tenn.), and Jordan Friedman (Easton, Md.) enter their first season with the Mount this year.

Both the men's and women's teams head to the NJIT Invitational on Sunday, October 21, with competition beginning at 2 p.m.
