Mount Softball Downed by North Dakota and Stetson at the Hatter Classic
Deland, Fla. (March 2, 2019)--The Mount St. Mary's softball team opened its Spring trip today at the Hatter Classic hosted by Stetson University, falling to North Dakota (11-2) and Stetson (5-0). 
GAME 1:  North Dakota 11, Mount St. Mary's 2
North Dakota scored multiple runs in each of the first four innings en route to an 11-2 win over the Mount in the first game on Saturday at the Hatter Classic.  Morgan Alisauckas went 2-for-3 at the plate to pace the Mount offense.
North Dakota scored twice in the top of the first on a Marina Marzolino sacrifice fly and a Dani Romero RBI double.  The Mount answered with a run in the bottom of the first to slice the lead in half.  
Mariah Godde was hit by a pitch and moved to second on a groundout.  Alisauckas followed with an infield hit, and Godde came home when North Dakota threw out Alisauckas at second trying to steal.
Marzolina had a two-run double in the second, and Lindsay Hathaway's two-run single in the third extended the North Dakota lead to 6-1.  
The Mount got a run back in the bottom of the third.  Jessica Nines led off with a single, and moved to second on a Kirsten Mumma sacrifice bunt.  Godde grounded out to short to move Nines to third, and Kaylee Stoner's single to center plated Nines.  Alisauckas and Lindsay Heinze followed with singles to load the bases, but Kaia Bonshock popped out to short to end the inning.
North Dakota sealed the win with a five-run fourth inning, highlighted a two-run Romero homer.
Katie Olson pitched 1.2 innings of scorless relief of starter Avery Neuhart, who allowed 11 runs (seven earned) in 3.1 innings of work.
GAME 2:  Stetson 5, Mount St. Mary's 0
Stetson scored five times in the bottom of the fifth to post a 5-0 win over the Mount this afternoon.  The Mount was held to four hits in the contest.
The Mount put a pair of runners on base in the fifth on one-out singles by Kane and Holcomb, but Stetson was able to retired the final two batters of the inning to keep the game scoreless.
Stetson responded by scoring five times in the bottom of the fifth to take the lead.  After Kasey Fava reached on an error, Lizzie Shubert followed with a triple to give the Hatters a 1-0 lead.  Amanda Nikhazy then pinch hit, and belted a two-run home run to push the lead to 3-0.  Maria Marchiando added a pinch-hit RBI single and Ashly Smith an RBI double in the inning as well.
Amanda Berkley started for the Mount, allowing five runs (two earned) in five innings of work.  Olson pitched a scoreless inning of relief.
The Mount will play both teams again tomorrow.
