The No. 19 Mount St. Mary's women's bowling team finished in third place at the Red Flash Invitational at Holiday Bowl in Altoona, Pennsylvania to finish out January. The Mountaineers suffered a tough luck first round defeat to LIU-Post before rebounding with a win against Felician and avenging their loss to LIU-Post in the final round. Freshman Rebecca Dodson led the way for the Mountaineers with a 20.20 baker frame average, including multiple clutch shots in the anchor position. Freshman Danielle Milo also contributed nicely in the set-up position with a 19.26 baker frame average.
During the first day of the tournament, the Mountaineers went 4-1 with wins over #25 Kutztown, Penn State-Behrend, Felician, and Penn State-Altoona. Dodson led the way with a 19.20 baker frame average on a very challenging lane pattern. Freshman Tamera Stanton also contributed in a huge way with an 18.96 baker frame average in the set-up position.
The Mount recorded wins over #25 Kutztown, Penn State-Behrend, and Penn State-Altoona on day two of the Red Flash Invitational. Tamera Stanton and Dodson placed third and fourth, respectively, in the individual standings to claim All-Tournament Team honors. Stanton rolled four 200-plus games on Saturday, while Dodson finished with three.
MOUNT REMAINS NO. 19 IN NATIONAL RANKINGS
The Mount St. Mary's women's bowling team remained No. 19 in the country in the National Tenpins Coaches Association (NTCA) Poll released on February 6. The first-year Mountaineers are out to an impressive 54-22 record a little over halfway through their inaugural season, and have earned 18 wins over top-25 opponents through the opening part of the campaign. The Mount recorded a perfect 6-0 mark at its first Northeast Conference (NEC) tournament, defeating five nationally-ranked teams on its way to the top of the league standings.
The Mount women's bowling team will head to Baltimore for the James Brown Invite hosted by Morgan State on February 15 – 17.
