No. 19 Mount Bowling Closes Out Regular Season at NEC Meet this Weekend

Both days of the tournament will be streamed live on the Mount Bowling Facebook account.

The Mount will open the tournament on Friday with traditional matches against Saint Francis U, Duquesne, Sacred Heart, LIU Brooklyn, and Fairleigh Dickinson. On Saturday morning, the Mountaineers will take on St. Francis Brooklyn in a traditional match before a break in play. Following the intermission, the Mount will play three five-game baker matches. On Sunday, the Mountaineers close out play with four more baker matches. The team with the best record at the end of the 18 total matches spanning NEC Meets #1 and #2 will be crowned NEC Regular Season Champions and have the No. 1 seed at the NEC Championships in March. The top-five teams in the standings will all advance to the NEC Championships.

After a perfect 6-0 mark at NEC Meet #1, the Mountaineers sit atop the league standings heading into this tournament. They are followed by #11 Saint Francis U (4-2), #23 Duquesne (4-2), #8 Fairleigh Dickinson (2-4), #17 LIU Brooklyn (2-4), #20 Sacred Heart (2-4), and St. Francis Brooklyn (1-5).

The 19th-ranked Mountaineers are coming off a ninth-place finish at the James Brown Invite hosted by Morgan State this past weekend. They went 4-1 on the opening day of the tournament, taking down Howard, Coppin State, Bowie State and Virginia Union. Freshman Erin Burkart led the way on for the Mount off the bench with an 18.89 baker frame average. A 2-2 record with victories over Caldwell and Morgan State on day two put the Mount at 6-3 heading into the final day. Freshman Rebecca Dodson paced the squad with a 188.8 traditional average on the second day. The Mountaineers went 2-1 on the final day, topping Morgan State and Chestnut Hill, to finish the invite at 8-4 while improving their overall season record to 70-31. Burkhart led the Mount once again with a 19.40 baker frame average on day three.

On Wednesday night, the United States Bowling Congress announced Mount St. Mary's as one of 64 teams to earn a berth to the Intercollegiate Team Championships Sectional Qualifier. The Mount was placed in the Addison, Illinois region, along with Lindenwood-MO, Robert Morris-IL, St. Francis-IL, Grand View, Saint Xavier, Judson, Alma, Calumet, Viterbro, Wisconsin-Whitewater, Concordia-MI, Aquinas-MI, Lawrence Tech-MI, Wisconsin-Milwaukee, Highland CC, Duquesne, Siena Heights-MI, and Waldorf. On the opening day of the team's first-ever conference tournament back in December, the Mountaineers rolled to a 4-0 win over St. Francis Brooklyn and a 4-1 victory over then-#12 Sacred Heart, before closing out the day by edging then-#9 Fairleigh Dickinson by a 4-3 margin. Dodson led the charge for the Mount with a 19.80 baker frame average. The Mountaineers kept their momentum going into day two, as they topped then-#20 Duquesne, 4-1, then-#19 LIU Brooklyn, 4-2, and then-#13 Saint Francis U, 4-0, to finish out NEC Meet #1 with a perfect 6-0 record and claim the top spot in the standings. Freshman Barbara Hawes led the Mount on day two with a 19.72 baker frame average.
