EMMITSBURG, Md. (Jan. 9, 2020) - Following five weeks off, the Mount St. Mary's bowling team hosts the inaugural Stormin' Blue & White Vegas Classic. The three-day tournament will take place at the South Point Hotel & Casino, home to a 64-lane bowling center.

SETTING THE SCENE

Mount St. Mary's enters 2020 with a 36-20 record and a 4-8 mark in the Northeast Conference (NEC). The team last played in the second NEC meet in December and struggled to a 1-5 finish. That puts the Mount in fifth place in the conference, lining them up for a playoff with Fairleigh Dickinson for the final spot in the conference championship. They'll have one opportunity to advance in the standings with the third and final NEC weekend in February.

More positive outcomes include several trophy finishes, including a runner-up title at the Virginia Union University Invitational this past November.

FORMAT

Tournament play will follow a traditional style for bowling meets. Friday opens with Quint Baker matches and Saturday will feature Traditional matches. There are five opponents on each day. Sunday moves to bracket play, which is best-of-seven Baker play.

THE FIELD

This will be the Mount's toughest challenge yet, as 10 of the National Tenpin Coaches Association's (NTCA) Top 25 teams will participate. Mount is currently ranked No. 13 in the NTCA poll, and will be joined by No. 1 McKendree, No. 3 Nebraska, No. 5 Vanderbilt, No. 8 Stephen F. Austin, No. 14 Delaware State, No. 15 Maryville, No. 16 Tulane, No. 23 Monmouth and No. 25 Prairie View A&M.

In the matchup draw, the Mountaineers drew all four of the top ten teams.

LOOKING AHEAD

The Stormin' Blue & White Vegas Classic is one of two tournaments for Mount Bowling in January. Two weeks later, the team will travel to the Red Flash Invitational in Altoona, Pa., hosted by Saint Francis U.
