Loyola, Md. (Sept. 29, 2017) - The Mount St. Mary's women's tennis team wrapped up the first set of matches in the first day of the Loyola Invitational on Friday night.
The invitational is a 'Points of the Compass' format, with each team consisting of two players and each round consisting of a doubles match and two singles matches. The winner of the best-of-three advances to the next round.
Alexa Quintanilla and Megan Gamble swept the best of three match against Lafayette's Black and Hill. The Mount duo edged Black and Hill 6-3 in the doubles match, Quintanilla defeated Black 6-0, 6-2, and Gamble topped Hill 6-7, 6-1, 10-6. Quintanilla and Gamble advanced to the quarterfinals of the invitational.
Hannah Davis and Sruthi Kamprath will battle from the consolation bracket after George Mason's Hahn and Lowe took two out of three. Davis and Kamprath blanked the Patriot's duo 6-1 to take the doubles match point, but Hahn squeaked by Davis 6-7, 6-3, 10-8 and Lowe defeated Kamprath 6-3, 6-4.
Two other Mount duos will also play from the consolation bracket Saturday. Emma Blake and Megan Smith were topped by Lafayette's Snyder and Lesnick, and Sam Barbato and Cassandra Powell were blanked by Green and Yang from George Mason. Lafayette's duo topped Blake and Smith 6-2 in doubles competition, Snyder defeated Smith 6-0, 6-2, and Lesnick clipped Blake 6-3, 6-0.
The George Mason duo defeated Barbato and Powell 6-0, Green took down Powell 6-0, 6-2, and Yang edged Barbato 6-2, 6-3.
Day two of the Loyola Invitational will begin at 9:00 AM tomorrow, September 30.
